I'm thinkin bend, and adjust.

Being not super familiar with the layout, I'm having a hard time remembering exactly where this is on the map, and what impact it may have on the lines of sight. Aesthetically I like it bent. I think it may open up lines of sight that would be better closed off, or more restricted.

I think you may get your wish on this one. Hasn't been announced yet (we'll just pretend this doesn't constitute an announcement, lmao), but I believe 2v2 is what it will be.  Will let you all know once I have confirmation, in case anyone is interested in building something for it.

Copying this over from the January Challenge Discussion Thread.

 

Put together another quickie.  My design skills are really rusty right now.  The goal with this particular piece was just to work on adding in angles and curves, since my brain only wants to think in squares.  Gotta break that restricting tendency.

As you can see in the next image, the level is still very 'square' in a vertical sense, with very distinct levels.  This is something I want to work on as well, because while encounters when each player is at a different elevation are certainly good, encounters where both players' elevation changes dynamically throughout a battle are even better.  This is something I've not spent much time working on historically, so it's a good opportunity for improvement for me that's still out there.

Nothing I post for the foreseeable future will be an actual project that I plan to complete. Just working on specific weak points.

I don't think the lack of bend looks out of place at all, which is odd because usually being able to purpose build your geo like that is favorable. I'm honestly almost prompted to say no bend just to avoid creating that little pocket.

HAhaha that's actually one of the maps I got art inspiration for my map! Nicely done!

I already stole the textures, that little lip over the walkway, anddddd the middle two braces. My braces suck though

 

 

OH and if you guys are ever too lazy to turn on your xbox  and look at a map or anything for inspiration.... You could download all the maps from CE all the way to Reach/H4 off this website https://haloce3.com/xmf/

 

Then get this program below; Adjutant, and you can pretty much load up every map/campaign level from every game and look at it. No boundaries. Construct is fucking huge

And on the left of the model viewer you can toggle certain things off (cluster or instances) and see how they built up the map. Certain geometry will disappear when you toggle through them

I ran into an issue when I downloaded it from the google link so I may as well just link the correct adjutant download 4.2.0  - https://mega.nz/#!YttllQZY!tjrTM6_jNjaGMLz6Sr4I998qMvQ70mx-qb2otYrpaVM

 

the other version is 3.0.0 which doesn't work

 

and as you can see in the screenshot, the map geometry will be under 'scenario_structure_bsp' and you can fly around with your mouse and keyboard controls in the window

Not yet - the Cartographer is on the other side of the wall in H3, so maybe something related to that. Landmark, perhaps, or Beachhead.

 

I originally wanted to do Quasi over in a Forerunner style to reduce framerate, but I decided that I didn't want to handle anything involving 800 primitives and trapezoids, as well as lightmap and color issues. Technically it's still doable, but I got sidetracked by the skybox settings and an asset I made for it, so here we are, with a whole new layout. I'll draw it up this week, along with my other maps. I want to have an all-encompassing document that explains encounters, thought process, design decisions, testing etc. @SaltyKoalaBear thank dog you dogged Quasi, otherwise it would remain 'cashed' - kid's a god!
