  3. I think vitality enhancement could be like blue pills scattered around the map. The blood circulation could really booth your health meter!

  4. Some of those armors are wack. Some are pretty cool. Wonder if they'll be brought over to Infinite. Guess we'll actually be able to put on suits specially designed for WW2 maps, castles, and asian temples/folklore locations after all. Truth is stranger than fiction, it seems.

  7. It’s kind of weird to use level design as a reason to debate a change in the mechanics, when the level design is supposed to be built around the mechanics. Iceworm and Midship wouldn’t work the same with different mechanics, but that’s because they were designed with Halo’s current mechanics in mind. I don’t see how shield and health pickups would be a hindrance to the gameplay. Level designers have to make up for this weakness in the mechanics to try to encourage/force cycling the map. Having no consequences for losing a fight is nonsense.

  8. Halo MCC new armors. Jeeze, people wonder why Halo fans are such rabid dogs. The behavior is almost encouraged by the developers because anytime a flame war isn't started they do something crazy. I don't defend everything people say to the devs, they're still human beings. But man it feels like they are asking for the fans to he assholes at this point. Maybe im overreacting, I don't mind slightly crazy armor, I just really dislike how out of place these cosmetics are.

  9. I have a model built for an idea I’ve been thinking about for a couple months. I’ll post some pics and the idea behind it maybe tonight or this week.

  10. You say that, but people were content with playing Amplified, Onslaught, Simplex, Onyx, and Truth. There's a reason for the different flavors of potato chips.

  11. I think Midship is actually Octagon's final evolution. And everyone trying to make a map that caters to the Midship cycle is just going backwards in the evolutionary chain without even realizing it. Like if there was an AI program that took 5 years to come up with the perfect 2t2b layout for H2/3 and threw out all the bad versions, Midship Resequencers are just rediscovering those discarded variants. I think people realize this on a subliminal level and just don't even care to play the Midship Precursors over long periods of time, because Midship already exists. Has anyone else noticed this?

  12. @Box_Hoes do you have behavioral principles you've come up with or are looking at for a new map?

  13. Well, yeah I agree. That much is a given, both towers are important. Non recharging health on any map outside of Octagon would probably force movement to some degree, so keeping health packs outside of the two towers would do the same. Obviously capturing a flag is a form of progression that drives itself even on a completely flat square. I was more just alluding to maps that have geo that make you want to go through that sequence. Iceworm has the bottom-top conflict, so if the bottom is 0, and the top of the map is 1, you use the whole 0-1 spectrum. Right off the bat Middy is symmetrical so outside objectives forcing your movement you're going 0 - .5, if that makes sense. And that 0 - .5 can literally be summarized by crossing one single street because the map is so small. But yes, keeping health packs outside of the towers would change the way it plays, I agree. I was just making shorthand comments about how it might open up some possibilities with LD.

  14. Midship has no progression, you just look anywhere and shoot. Something like iecworm might actually be improved because the map has a progression you go through. Best aspect of non-recharging health is that the health pickup locations actually affect the map balance a lot more than weapons might. Several health pickups at the bottom of iceworm and none at the top would flip the map on its head. You could actually stay at the bottom and pepper away at the higher players forcing them to come down to heal, or just eventually push them. Takes away from some of the simplicity of Halo though.

  18. A Hero Portal is a small hill zone with a unique visual effect. It opens for 15 seconds every 2 minutes. If a player holds the hill for 3 consecutive seconds, he is transported and transformed, reborn as a hero with enhanced traits/abilities/inventory. There are four available heroes. The hero can be fixed, set by the map designer or left variable for the player to choose. If variable, each hero can be assigned his own spawn location. For example, the Brute Chieftain spawns on a platform above the map, allowing his Ground Stomp ability to return him to it via offensive vertical strike while the Elite Field Marshall spawns ground level in the center of the map, forcing him to fight from the middle out, defending his Bubble Shield with his Energy Sword in between Beam Rifle snipes. The ability to deny the Hero Portal’s usage allows its reward to be greater than that of a traditional pick-up. A hero’s power can tempered by his spawn location.
